BUSINESS MANAGER

Position Summary: The Academy Charter School Business Manager will lead the business affairs of a high performing Core Knowledge charter school and act in support of the school staff and the Governing Board in key financial, infrastructure and legal compliance to optimize the operational business structure and processes. The position will play a key role in understanding the broad spectrum of school financing and implications to the strategy set by the ACS Governing Board.

Reports to: Academy Charter School Governing Board Business Manager Job Description

The Business Manager at Academy Charter School has the authority in the areas of:

  • Finance
  • Legal Compliance of the School
  • HR & Benefits
Finance

Oversee the development and maintenance of a positive financial position for the school.

  • Maintain financial records and bookkeeping system
  • GAAP Accounting compliance
  • Serve as Comptroller and internal auditor
  • Budget administration
  • Manage Public Funding
  • Liaison to the external auditor
Coordinate & provide all necessary documentation for and oversee successful, on-time completion of Academy Charter School annual audits
  • Bond compliance & reporting
  • Balance Sheet / Fund Balance ownership & reporting
  • GAAP Accounting compliance
Work with the Governing Board and Castle Life Long Learning Center Building Corporation to develop a budget and effectively use funds. Provide monthly reporting on financial activity
  • Budget (adopting & submitting annual budgets)
  • Grant monies and status (Grant compliance or district & state)
  • Areas of concern/risk exposure in the budget, purchasing, facilities, or grants including specific proposals for dealing with these issues
  • Assist in development and content for an annual report to a parent community audience
Develop financial support information for grant applications. Liaison with Douglas County School District in financial matters. Responsible for school assets and supplies including procedures for ordering and inventory, and negotiating maintenance contracts for equipment (Vendor services contracts)
  • Charter Contract Compliance – Liaison for items or issues related to the charter contract
  • Risk Management (Risk identification and Mitigation plan capture)
  • Ensure that Safety response process is in place, documented, and periodically tested (including team & related volunteers)
Personnel

Coordinate with Douglas County School District and manage Academy Charter School’s portion of all non-performance related personnel issues for all school employees including payroll, benefits, hiring paperwork, documentation, etc. Maintain faculty and non-academic staff records/files including interviews and hiring paperwork, benefits, evaluations, contracts.

  • Manage and maintain employee records and contribution amounts through PERA
  • Manage and maintain employee information with the district through Workday
  • Oversee payroll administration
    • IRS & Employer requirements
    • Employee Benefit Plans
Legal Compliance

Assure ACS is in compliance with all non-academic state, federal, and local laws & regulations; including adherence to the charter contracts. Stay abreast of changes to applicable laws and regulations, and communicate to the Governing Board how such changes may affect ACS.

Minimum Job Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business Administration or Finance
  • Experience in public/government/non-profit accounting
  • Management experience in a non-profit educational setting
  • Computer literacy and proficiency with appropriate software applications (example: Microsoft Excel, Word & PowerPoint, and QuickBooks)
Salary Range

$50,000 to $80,000 USD per year.

Year-Round - Academy Kids Before and After School Program Assistant

Responsibilities: 

Responsible for providing assistance to the Before and After School Director in working with students, clerical tasks and other functions; mediates student conflicts; supervises students in various settings; may administer first aid; assists in the maintenance of student records; assists in the maintenance of student cumulative records through the transcription of data; performs other related duties as assigned or requested.

Qualifications:
  • Available to Work:
  • High School Diploma
  • Able to work 3:35 p.m.-6:00 p.m. M-F
  • Must be available to work during summers. Flexible hours available.
  • Must be 18 years old or older
  • Ability to work with students Kindergarten-8th grade
  • CPR/First Aid/UP Certified. Training supplied.
  • Able to drive for Field Trips

Salary Range: $12-15/hour
Start Date: June 3, 2019
