Peer Counseling

What is Peer Counseling?

Peer counseling is a group of qualified 8th grade student counselors trained to address a broad range of topics by providing confidential support to ACS students.  Peer counselors offer an encouraging atmosphere where students can talk openly about issues, challenges and accompanying feelings. Peer counselors help students develop solutions to their problems through the use of active listening and open dialogue. The ACS Peer counselors are trained in empathetic listening skills, and act as a resource and support for various elementary school issues. Peer counselors also serve as mentors for our school mentoring program. This program helps elementary students that need a little extra love and support by giving them someone to invest in their interests and feelings. The peer counselors are  goodwill ambassadors for Academy Charter School and they assist with several community service projects throughout the year.

Applications for peer counseling will be accepted in September of each year. If your student is in the 8th grade and is interested in becoming a peer counselor, have them look over the paperwork below and apply!
