Be a Map Maker!
Due:
September 20th
Our geography project for this quarter
is going to be great fun! The students will be making a map of their route to
school. To develop student’s visual
skills, take a walk or drive through your neighborhood with your child,
encouraging them to take notes of important streets and landmarks. They also should take notes on their way to
and from school. Student’s maps should
represent proportions and distances as closely as possible.
Included in their
map should be the following elements:
1.
Their house
2.
School
3.
At least five other important landmarks, marked
with invented symbols (such as restaurants, parks, churches, banks, friends’
homes, etc.)
4.
Map key to explain symbols
5.
Map scale
6.
Compass rose with all directions listed
7.
Map coordinates (these can either be latitude and
longitude lines or number and letter coordinates)
The
map should be presented on an 11” by 17” poster board or construction paper. It
should be detailed and neat with lots of color! There should not be any errors
in spelling. Have fun!
The ACS music department announces…
…Music Informances 2010…
For Kindergarten through 5th grade.
Music programs for the 2010
school year take on a new face at Academy Charter School. Take the “per” out of performance, replace it with “in,” and you get informance, a music program that provides a rich experience for
students and parents.
Informances 2010, which will take the place of the winter and spring music programs
this year, will not only give parents a better understanding of their
children’s musical abilities, but also a greater appreciation of how their
children achieved those abilities.
End-product and learning-approach meet in this interactive environment,
sure to enrich all involved.
Please note in your calendar
the date below that applies to your child’s informance. Then complete the confirmation below, and
return it to your child’s homeroom teacher by Friday, September 10th.
Come enjoy, and get informed!
Sincerely,
Nathaniel Ross
